PILOT SLEEVE
The 551 869 91A PILOT SLEEVE is a critical internal component, often found in hydraulic control valves or cylinders. It guides moving parts and directs fluid flow, ensuring smooth and precise operation on your drilling rig. Replace it to prevent sluggish performance and maintain system pressure.

Full Technical Description
551 869 91A PILOT SLEEVE is usually tucked away inside a hydraulic control valve or sometimes a cylinder body, where it acts as a critical liner. Its main job is to guide the internal spool or piston, making sure everything moves smooth and true. It also helps direct the hydraulic fluid paths, essentially channeling the oil exactly where it needs to go to make things happen, whether that's extending a feed cylinder or engaging a rotation motor. Without it, things just wouldn't flow right.
When this sleeve starts to wear thin, you’ll usually notice a few tell-tale signs. The clearances inside whatever component it's in — say, a main control valve or a feed cylinder — will open up. What happens then is internal leakage starts to creep in, and your hydraulic system won't hold pressure like it should. You might feel the drill feed getting a bit sluggish or inconsistent, or maybe the boom drift starts getting worse than usual. Sometimes, if it’s really gone, you’ll hear a sort of chattering or feel a vibration as the guided part struggles to move smoothly against the worn surfaces.
Replacing this sleeve isn't usually a huge job, but it's one of those things where you really need to take your time. Always make sure you thoroughly clean out the bore it seats into; any burrs or crud in there will just chew up the new sleeve or prevent it from seating properly. And here’s a common one folks forget: always check the condition of the spool or piston that runs inside this sleeve. If that mating part is scored or worn, you’re just going to wear out your new sleeve prematurely, and you'll be back in there sooner than you'd like.
