LUBRICATION, SHANK

551 986 97C LUBRICATION, SHANK is essentially the guts of a critical lubrication point, making sure grease or oil gets exactly where it needs to go on your rig. Think of it as the plumbing and fittings that deliver the lifeblood to moving parts like a rotary head bearing, feed chain rollers, or even the rock drill's front end. Without this set doing its job, those high-friction areas would just grind themselves to dust, and you'd be looking at some serious downtime and expensive component replacements pretty quickly. It's all about keeping things slick and free-moving under heavy load.

When this LUBRICATION, SHANK starts to give up the ghost, you'll usually notice it. The most common sign is often increased friction, which can manifest as a distinct squealing or grinding noise coming from the affected area. You might also see sluggish movement or even a bit of binding if it's on a feed system. If you're running an automatic lube system, you might get a fault code, but sometimes it's just a subtle drop in performance or an increase in operating temperature on a bearing that tells you something isn't getting its proper shot of grease. Don't ignore those little hints; they turn into big problems fast.

Replacing this set isn't usually a massive job, but it's one you want to do right. Make sure you clean out any old, hardened grease from the lines and fittings before you put the new stuff in. A common mistake I've seen is technicians just swapping out the obvious broken piece without checking the entire run for blockages or kinks, especially if it's a long hose. Always prime the system after installation to ensure grease is actually flowing to the point of lubrication, not just sitting in the line. A quick visual check for flow is worth its weight in gold.
