Its hydraulic cylinders provide the force to lift, swing, and extend the entire drilling unit. Structural integrity of the BOOM is directly linked to the rig's overall performance and safety. Any bending, cracking, or excessive wear in its pivot points can make precise drilling impossible. For example, when the pins and bushings wear out, the resulting play in the BOOM makes it difficult to maintain hole alignment, slowing down the entire drilling cycle. Look for visible cracks in the steel structure, especially around welds and connection points.
