PLATFORM, SERVICE

551 998 98C PLATFORM, SERVICE is essentially your elevated workspace, giving you safe access to critical areas on the rig that you just can't reach from the ground. Think about changing out a feed cylinder, checking hydraulic lines up high, or doing some welding on the mast structure – you need a solid, stable place to stand and set your tools down without worrying about a fall. It’s not a fancy hydraulic component, but it’s absolutely essential for any kind of serious maintenance or inspection work on the drill.

When this platform starts to go, it’s usually pretty obvious, and it’s a big safety concern. You might notice excessive movement or wobble when someone steps on it, or maybe some visible cracks in the welds or along the deck plate. Sometimes the anti-slip surface wears right off, making it slick, especially in wet or oily conditions. We’ve seen guys get a real scare when a platform feels unstable underfoot, and that’s a clear sign it's time for a closer look. Don't wait until someone takes a tumble.

Replacing one of these isn't usually a complex job, but you really need to pay attention to the mounting points and hardware. Often, the bolts holding it to the rig frame can get loose or corroded over time, which contributes to that instability. Make sure you're using the correct grade of fasteners and torquing them properly. Also, don't forget to check the condition of any support brackets or hinges; they take a lot of stress and can often be overlooked when just swapping out the main deck.
