SEQUENCE VALVE

552 016 13 VALVE, SEQUENCE is what makes sure the hydraulic pressure builds up in the right order for certain functions on the rig. Think of it like a gatekeeper. It holds back flow until a preset pressure is reached, then it opens up to let the next part of the circuit get its oil. This is crucial for things like ensuring a clamp fully engages before a feed cylinder moves, or that a drill rod is properly secured before rotation starts. Without it, you'd have functions trying to happen out of sync, which is just asking for trouble or damage.

When this valve starts going bad, you'll usually notice some sluggishness or, worse, functions not happening at all. If it’s sticking open or not building enough pressure to trip, you might find your next operation just won't initiate. For example, a feed cylinder might hesitate or not move at all even though you've got the lever pulled, because the SEQUENCE VALVE isn't letting the oil through at the right time. Sometimes you'll hear a bit of a chattering noise from the valve itself as it tries to open or close against a worn spring or seat. It’s a real pain when it acts up because it throws off the whole sequence of operations.

When you're swapping one of these out, make sure you clean the area thoroughly around the old valve and its port. Debris is a killer for hydraulic components, especially sensitive ones like this. Also, don't just assume the new valve is good to go right out of the box; always double-check the pressure setting if it's adjustable, or at least confirm the part number matches exactly. It's easy to overlook that little detail, thinking all sequence valves are set the same, but they're not. A small pressure difference can mess up your whole system timing.
