Instead, you might hear a distinct clunking or knocking sound, especially when the cylinder changes direction or hits its travel limits. What happens is the clearances get too big, allowing for excessive movement. This isn't just annoying noise; it puts extra stress on the cylinder pins, bushings, and even the cylinder itself, leading to premature failure of those other components. Replacing one of these isn't usually a huge job, but it's important to do it right and not just swap it out.
