Its primary job is to prevent any unwanted movement or misalignment of the part it secures, which is essential for the entire feed mechanism to function correctly.

A cracked or loose clamping plate can have serious consequences for both performance and safety. If the plate fails to hold the drifter cradle securely, for example, the drifter can vibrate excessively on the feed, leading to poor hole quality and premature wear on the cradle slides. In a worst-case scenario, a complete failure could cause a heavy component to detach from the machine.

Visually inspect the plate for cracks or bending during regular maintenance, paying close attention to the areas around the bolt holes. If you notice that the fastening bolts repeatedly come loose, the plate may be deformed and losing its clamping force. Always replace a damaged plate; never attempt to straighten or weld it.
