PULL ST7

PULL ST7 5580 0205 22 is a pretty fundamental piece, usually buried deep in the feed system. Its main job is to transmit the pulling force, either from the feed motor or a hydraulic cylinder, directly to the drifter carriage. This is what actually hauls the whole drill string back up the mast after a pass, or sometimes it's involved in the initial push down, depending on the rig's setup. Think of it as a critical link, taking all that linear load.

When this thing starts to wear out, you'll definitely notice it. The most common symptom is usually a sluggish or inconsistent retraction of the drifter. It might feel like it's dragging, or you'll get a noticeable ""judder"" in the feed movement, especially when it's under load. Sometimes you'll even hear a new, subtle clunking sound, which often points to developing play in its connections or within the component itself. Don't ignore those signs; they usually mean trouble is brewing.

Look, replacing one of these isn't always a quick swap, so when you're in there, don't just focus on the new part. Always make sure to thoroughly inspect the mating surfaces and any bushings or bearings it rides in. What a lot of guys forget is to check the alignment of the components it connects to; if things aren't lined up right, even a brand-new pull rod won't last long. A bit of extra time on inspection can save you from doing the job twice.
