SCREW, WING

560 379 90 SCREW, WING is usually found holding down lighter covers or access panels that you need to get into fairly often on the rig. Think about the smaller inspection covers on the power pack, or maybe securing a guard that needs to be removed for daily checks. It's there to keep things snug but still allow for quick, tool-free access when you're doing your rounds or a quick adjustment. It's not for anything structural, just keeping components in place without needing a wrench.

When one of these wing screws starts to go, usually the wings get bent or snapped off from overtightening or just getting snagged. Or, the threads can strip out, either on the screw itself or in the mating hole. You'll notice things rattling loose, like that access panel on the hydraulic tank might start vibrating more than usual, or a guard might feel a bit wobbly. Sometimes, if it's on a cover that's supposed to seal, you might even get some dust ingress or a minor leak if the cover isn't held tight anymore. It's not a catastrophic failure part, but it sure makes things annoying and can lead to bigger issues if parts start shaking loose.

Replacing these is usually straightforward; just thread the new one in. But here's the kicker: always check the threads in the *hole* it goes into. Often, the screw fails because the mating threads are already damaged, and you just strip the new one right out. Don't just crank it down; it's a SCREW, WING, meant for finger-tightening, maybe a quarter turn more. Over-tightening is the quickest way to snap the wings off or strip the threads, and then you're drilling it out, which is a whole different headache.
