PIPE, FILLING

560 452 91 PIPE, FILLING A filling hopper serves as a magazine or storage unit for various consumables used in underground rock drilling or bolting operations. Its primary role is to hold items such as rock bolts, rebar, or resin cartridges, making them accessible for automated or semi-automated feeding systems. This component is essential for maintaining a continuous workflow, reducing the need for manual handling of heavy or awkward materials, which in turn enhances overall productivity at the face.

Typically located on the feed beam or near the boom linkage of a bolting or drilling rig, the hopper ensures a steady supply of materials to the drilling or bolting unit. A properly functioning hopper directly impacts safety by minimizing operator exposure to moving parts and heavy loads. When it operates reliably, it prevents costly delays and ensures that the machine can perform its tasks without interruption. For example, if the internal lining or feeding mechanism of the hopper is damaged, it can cause jams, halting the bolting process and requiring manual intervention.

Regular inspection of the hopper's interior for wear, cracks, or material buildup is important. Check for any damage to the walls or the integrity of any associated feeding mechanisms. Symptoms like frequent jamming, difficulty loading consumables, or visible deformation indicate it might be time for maintenance or replacement. Keeping the hopper clean and free from debris helps prevent feeding issues and extends its service life, ensuring smooth operation of your drilling or bolting equipment.
