PISTON, BRAKE

690 390 06 PISTON, BRAKE is essentially the muscle inside your brake assembly. It’s what actually pushes against the brake discs or plates, creating the friction needed to hold things still. Think of it as the hydraulic actuator that clamps down when you need to stop a feed motor or lock a rotation unit. Without it doing its job right, you're not getting any real holding power, and that’s a problem.

When this piston starts getting tired, or its seals begin to leak, you’ll usually notice the brake just isn't holding like it should. The rig might drift a bit when you're trying to hold position, or you could even see some inconsistent pressure readings if the hydraulic fluid is bypassing the piston. Sometimes, you'll hear a groan or a squeal as it tries to engage but can't quite get the grip. That’s a pretty clear sign something’s up internally, and it's not going to get better on its own.

Replacing one of these isn't rocket science, but you really want to make sure the bore it slides into is clean and smooth. Any burrs or crud in there will chew up your new piston's seals in no time, and you'll be doing the job again. And don't forget to check the condition of the return springs, if it uses any – a weak spring can cause drag even with a fresh piston. Always use fresh fluid too, obviously.
