SUPPORT

770 091 87 SUPPORT is usually bolted down somewhere to keep a critical component, like a hydraulic cylinder or a rotation unit, from moving around more than it should. It’s not a moving part itself, but it’s absolutely essential for holding things steady and keeping them aligned. Think about the forces involved when a rig is drilling; this piece takes a lot of that load and makes sure everything stays true, preventing binding or excessive play in the system.

When this SUPPORT starts to wear out or gets damaged, you’ll definitely notice it. Often, the first sign is a new rattle or a bit of slop in the assembly it’s supposed to be holding tight. If it’s for a feed cylinder, you might see the cylinder binding or even hear a groaning noise as it extends or retracts because it’s not tracking straight anymore. I’ve seen cases where a cracked SUPPORT led to premature wear on cylinder rods or even bent shafts because the alignment went completely sideways.

Replacing one of these isn't usually a complex job, but you really need to pay attention to the details. Don't just unbolt the old one and slap a new one on. Always take a good look at the mounting surfaces on the frame and the component it's supporting – check for any deformation or cracks there. And for crying out loud, make sure you use the correct torque on all the fasteners. A lot of guys forget that proper torque is just as important as the part itself for keeping things from coming loose and causing more damage.
