If the sealing surfaces are worn or the cap develops a crack, the subsequent pressure loss will cause a noticeable drop in impact power. A leaking cap means the drifter loses energy with every blow, slowing down the penetration rate and increasing operational costs.

A common symptom of a failing end cap is a persistent hydraulic oil leak from the back of the drifter.
