SWING BASKET

SWING BASKET 8113 0311 75 is essentially one of the main structural pieces that holds the feed beam assembly to the boom on a lot of these rigs. It's what allows the whole feed to pivot, or 'swing,' side to side or up and down, depending on the rig model and what you're trying to do. Think of it as the critical link that takes all the load from the feed and transfers it back to the boom structure. Without it, you wouldn't have that crucial articulation for positioning the drill string.

When this basket starts to wear out, or if it takes a hit, you’ll usually notice a few things. The most common is slop or excessive play in the feed movement. You might hear creaking or groaning noises when the feed is repositioning, especially under load. Sometimes, if it's really bad, you'll see the feed beam not holding its position quite right, or it might drift a bit when you're trying to align it. We've even seen cases where the mounting points get ovaled out, which just makes everything feel loose and imprecise.

Replacing one of these isn't a quick job, so it's best to keep an eye on it. When you're doing your routine checks, always look for cracks, especially around the welds and mounting pin bores. Don't just glance; really get in there with a light. Also, check the pins and bushings that connect it to the boom and feed. They often wear in conjunction with the basket itself, and putting a new basket on worn pins is just asking for trouble down the road. Make sure everything's properly greased too; that's a simple thing people forget, and it makes a huge difference in component life.
