For instance, when the pin bores on this arm become oval from use, the entire feed beam will feel loose and difficult to position accurately for collaring. A crack or bend in the arm compromises its load-bearing capacity, creating a serious risk of uncontrolled boom movement.

Visually inspect the arm regularly for any signs of cracking, especially around the welds and pin connection points. Any visible bending or twisting indicates the part needs immediate replacement. When installing a new arm, it is good practice to also replace the corresponding pins and bushings to ensure a tight, slop-free fit.
