A secure cable anchor is essential for both safety and performance. If a wedge fails or allows the cable to slip, the drifter can lose position unexpectedly, creating a serious hazard. Inconsistent cable tension also leads to erratic feed pressure, which can reduce drilling efficiency and cause the drill string to get stuck.
