It absorbs the friction and shock loads generated during drilling and tramming. This function prevents elongated holes and accelerated wear on expensive-to-repair components like the boom sections or feed beam cradle.

The condition of these bushings directly impacts drilling precision and operational safety. As wear increases, it introduces looseness or 'play' into the joints. For example, when this bushing wears in a boom lift cylinder joint, the boom can start to sag or move with a noticeable jolt, making it difficult for the operator to accurately position the drifter for the next hole.

Listen for clunking sounds from the boom and visually check for excessive movement at the pin connections during function tests. Maintaining a consistent greasing schedule is the most effective way to extend the life of the bushing. Replace it as soon as play becomes excessive to avoid costly damage to the pin and the surrounding steel structure.
