It’s critical for keeping crud out of your main pump and making sure the system doesn't suck air. Think of it as the gatekeeper for your hydraulic fluid's first line of defense, ensuring only clean oil makes it to where it needs to go, right at the start of the circuit.

When this SUCTION TUBE starts to go, usually you'll notice the hydraulic pump getting noisy – that distinct whining or gurgling sound, which is often cavitation from air getting sucked in. Sometimes you'll even see foam in the tank if it's really bad. That air can really mess with your pump's life and make your rig's movements feel sluggish or inconsistent, especially when you're trying to get a precise feed or rotation.

When you're swapping one of these out, always make sure to give the sealing surface on the tank or housing a good clean. And don't forget to check the O-ring or gasket that goes with it; sometimes folks just replace the top and reuse an old, flattened O-ring, which defeats the whole purpose. A little bit of clean hydraulic oil on the new O-ring helps it seat properly and prevents it from pinching when you tighten things down.
