When you're pulling an assembly apart that uses one of these, always plan on replacing it. They're a one-time use deal; once you bend those tabs, they're not designed to be straightened and re-bent. Trying to reuse one is just asking for a call-back. And here's a common oversight: make sure you're bending the tab into a *secure* slot or flat. Sometimes guys will just bend it against the side of the nut, thinking it's good enough, but it needs to be properly engaged with the stationary component to do its job right. Don't forget to check the mating surface for any burrs too, before you put the new one on.
