Proper function of this bearing is directly linked to drilling efficiency and the health of the entire rotation system. A worn or damaged bearing can cause excessive vibration, power loss, and overheating. If it seizes, the failure can cause costly damage to internal gears and significant operational downtime. A worn bearing can also lead to off-center rotation, causing uneven bit wear and potentially crooked holes.

Listen for any unusual grinding or whining sounds coming from the drifter's front end, as this is a common sign of a failing bearing.
