SLEEVE STEEL
The 088 243 78 BUSHING is a critical component for maintaining hydraulic integrity and preventing contamination in drill rig systems. It keeps fluids where they belong and grit out of sensitive areas, ensuring smooth operation and extending the life of other components. Don't underestimate its role; a small leak can lead to big problems.

Full Technical Description
088 243 78 BUSHING is usually found keeping things tight around a shaft or inside a bore, preventing hydraulic fluid from leaking out where it shouldn't, or stopping dirt and water from getting into sensitive areas like a cylinder rod or a bearing housing. On a drill rig, that means it's crucial for maintaining proper pressure in a hydraulic circuit or keeping contaminants from chewing up expensive bearings. If this seal isn't doing its job, you're looking at fluid loss, pressure drops, or accelerated wear on other, much pricier components. It's a small part, but it does a big job of separating different environments.
When this SLEEVE STEEL starts to go bad, usually what you'll notice first is a slow weep or a drip of oil around the rod or housing it's supposed to seal. If it's a dynamic seal, say in a feed cylinder or a positioner, you might even see the cylinder drift a bit under load because pressure is bypassing the worn seal. Or, if it's meant to keep crud out, you'll start getting more contamination in your hydraulic oil, which is a real headache for the whole system, accelerating wear on pumps and valves. That little bit of dampness or a slow drip is your first warning sign; it never fixes itself.
When you're replacing one of these, make sure the surface it seals against is absolutely clean and smooth. Any nicks, burrs, or even a bit of grit on the shaft or inside the bore will just tear up the new seal right away, sometimes even during installation. A lot of guys forget to properly clean and inspect the mating surfaces, thinking the new seal will just conform. Also, always use a bit of assembly lube – clean hydraulic oil works fine – to help it slide into place without damage. Rushing this step means you'll be back in there sooner than you want.
