When this cable starts to give up the ghost, you'll usually notice some pretty erratic behavior. Sometimes you get a 'sensor fault' code that doesn't clear, even after you've swapped the sensor itself. That's a dead giveaway the cable's got an internal break or a short. You might also see intermittent functions, where something works fine for a bit, then suddenly drops out, only to come back later. It’s frustrating, because it often points to a failing connection or damaged insulation somewhere along the line.

Replacing these isn't rocket science, but you've got to be thorough. Always trace the old cable's path exactly to make sure the new one isn't going to chafe or get pinched by moving parts. That's probably the most common oversight. Also, double-check both ends for proper seating and clean connections. A little dielectric grease on the pins, especially in wet environments, can save you a headache down the road. Don't just yank the old one out; take a minute to see why it failed. Was it rubbing against something? Was water getting into a connector? Learning from the old one helps protect the new one.
