BASIC MODULE

887 369 49 BASIC MODULE is essentially the traffic cop for your reverse circulation system. It’s what takes the air and drill cuttings coming up the inner tube and directs them. Depending on whether you're drilling or just flushing, it'll send that material either to your cyclone for sample collection or shunt it off to the bypass line. It’s got internal passages and a diverter mechanism that needs to seal up properly to maintain pressure and keep the flow going the right way.

When this module starts to wear out, you'll usually notice it first in your sample recovery. You might get inconsistent samples, or worse, a significant loss of air pressure at the cyclone, meaning your cuttings aren't making it up properly. Sometimes you'll even hear air bypassing internally, a kind of hiss or whoosh where it shouldn't be, indicating the internal seals or diverter mechanism isn't holding. If the diverter gets sticky, you might even see sluggish or incomplete changes when you try to switch between sample and bypass modes.

Replacing one of these isn't too complicated, but you really need to make sure all your connecting flanges and seals are clean and seated properly. Don’t just slap it on. A common thing folks miss is checking the condition of the hoses and pipes *leading into and out of* the module. Sometimes the problem isn't the module itself, but a collapsed hose or a worn-out elbow right next to it, which can mimic a module failure. Always give those a good once-over when you're in there.
