WINDOW STRIP

887 684 09 WINDOW STRIP is essentially the weatherstripping for the cab windows on a lot of our rigs. It's what keeps the dust, rain, and noise out of the operator's compartment. Think of it as the barrier that seals the glass panel into the frame, preventing drafts and making sure the cab stays a reasonably comfortable and quiet place to work, which is pretty important when you're out in the elements all day.

When these strips start to go bad, you’ll definitely notice it. Usually, the first thing is a draft, or you might hear a whistling sound from the window at certain engine RPMs or when the rig's moving. Then, if it gets worse, you'll start seeing dust infiltration inside the cab, especially on dry, windy days. And when it rains, water can actually seep in, sometimes dripping right onto the controls or the operator's lap, which is a real pain and can mess with electricals over time. It just doesn't hold the window tight anymore.

Replacing these isn't usually a big job, but it's one of those things that gets put off. When you do swap it out, make sure you clean the window frame channel thoroughly before installing the new strip. Any old crud or adhesive residue left in there will prevent the new strip from seating properly, and you'll be back to square one with leaks or drafts pretty quickly. Also, double-check the glass itself for any chips or cracks that might compromise the new seal.
