Its primary job is to transmit the powerful rotational force and percussive blows from the drifter's piston directly into the drill steel. A precise fit here is essential for efficient energy transfer and straight, productive drilling.

When a bit holder wears out, the drill bit shank becomes loose. This excessive play causes a major loss of impact energy, slowing down penetration and increasing vibration. The misalignment also puts severe stress on the drill bit shank and the drifter's front head components, often leading to premature breakages and expensive repairs.

Check the internal condition of the bit holder regularly, especially when changing drill bits. If you notice significant wear on the splines or if the bit feels sloppy, it's time for a replacement. Running a worn holder will only cost more in the long run through damaged drill steels and reduced productivity.
