A restricted breather or a damaged return line filter housing can also lead to cavitation at the main pump, which usually sounds like a distinct grinding or rattling noise, particularly when the system is under load. You might also notice the hydraulic oil running hotter than it should if the internal flow paths are messed up.

When you're dealing with a TANK, it's often more about thorough inspection and cleaning than just swapping it out. Drain the fluid completely, get a good look inside for any signs of corrosion, especially in the corners and at the bottom. A common thing folks forget is to check the breather cap – if it’s clogged, your pump can struggle to draw fluid, or it might even pull in dirt. Also, take a moment to inspect the return line filter housing for any cracks or damage. If the TANK is seriously corroded or structurally compromised, then yeah, you're looking at a full replacement to avoid bigger headaches down the road.
