VALVE, SHOCK LOAD
The BG 003 345 58A VALVE, SHOCK LOAD acts as a critical pressure buffer in your rig's hydraulic system, absorbing sudden spikes to protect pumps and lines. It's a key component for maintaining system integrity and preventing costly damage from dynamic loads.

Full Technical Description
BG 003 345 58A VALVE, SHOCK LOAD is essentially the system's pressure bodyguard. Its main job is to absorb those sudden, sharp pressure spikes that happen in hydraulic circuits, especially in a drill rig when things like the percussion or feed system hit a hard spot or suddenly unload. Think of it as a quick-acting relief valve, but tuned specifically for dynamic loads. It opens up fast to dump excess pressure back to tank or an accumulator, preventing damage to pumps, hoses, and other more expensive components downstream. Without it, you'd be blowing seals and lines way more often.
When this valve starts to go bad, you’ll usually notice a few things. If it's sticking or not opening properly, you might hear a hammering noise in the lines, or you'll see erratic pressure readings on your gauges – big, uncontrolled spikes. On the flip side, if it's leaking internally or opening too easily, your system might feel sluggish, or you could experience a noticeable drop in overall hydraulic power during heavy operations. Inconsistent percussion on a rock drill, for example, is a classic sign that something in the pressure dampening circuit, like this valve, isn't doing its job right.
Replacing one of these isn't rocket science, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Always make sure the system is depressurized before you crack any lines open. When you put the new one in, double-check that the porting is correct – they're usually marked, but it's easy to get turned around. And here's a common one folks miss: if this valve is part of a circuit with an accumulator, make sure you check that accumulator's pre-charge pressure. A low pre-charge can put undue stress on the VALVE, SHOCK LOAD, causing it to fail prematurely, even if the valve itself was fine.
