BAR, JUMPER

BG 003 960 77A BAR, JUMPER is typically one of those shorter hydraulic lines you find connecting a valve block to an actuator, or maybe bridging a gap on a manifold where you need a bit of flexibility. It’s not always a main pressure line, but it still has to hold its own against system pressure and handle the constant flexing and vibration that’s just part of life on a drill rig. Basically, it moves fluid from point A to point B while letting things shift around a bit without stressing the hard lines.

When this BAR, JUMPER starts to go, you’ll usually notice it first as a weep or a slow drip, often right at the crimp fitting where the hose meets the steel. Sometimes it’s a tiny pinhole leak that sprays a fine mist when the system is under pressure, making a real mess and dropping your hydraulic oil level faster than you’d think. If it blows completely, which isn’t uncommon if it’s been chafing or just aged out, you’ll get a sudden loss of function in whatever circuit it’s feeding – maybe a cylinder won’t extend, or a motor just stops turning. You might also hear a distinct hiss if it's a high-pressure leak, or even a slight drop in system pressure if it's a return line.

Replacing these isn’t usually a big deal, but don’t just yank it off and slap a new one on. Always check the routing of the old hose before you remove it; sometimes they’re tucked in tight, and you want the new one to sit just right to avoid chafing against other components or sharp edges. And for crying out loud, make sure you clean up the area around the fittings before you disconnect anything. You don't want grit getting into your hydraulic system. Also, double-check the thread type and size – you'd be surprised how many times someone grabs the wrong fitting and tries to force it, leading to bigger headaches down the road.
