It contains critical fluid passages that are essential for generating the percussive force and turning the drill steel. The PLATE, BACK also serves as the primary mounting point for high-pressure hoses and accumulators, making its structural integrity vital for the entire drilling system.

A failure in the PLATE, BACK, such as a crack or a warped sealing surface, can lead to significant performance loss.
