You might hear a distinct clunking sound, especially when the cylinder reverses direction or when there's a sudden load change. That play can lead to things not lining up quite right, maybe even a bit of drift if it's in a position-holding spot, or just generally sluggish, imprecise movement. It's not just the PIN wearing; often the bore it sits in starts to egg-shape too, which complicates things.

When you're replacing one of these, don't just yank the old one out and slap a new PIN in.
