REDUCTION ASSEMBLY

BG 012 719 91A REDUCTION ASSEMBLY is what takes the higher speed input from the motor and gears it down significantly. This assembly gives you the grunt you need, whether it's turning the drill string against hard rock or getting the tracks to move that heavy rig across a rough bench. Without it, you'd just have a lot of RPMs and no real power delivered where it counts, making the machine pretty useless for its actual job.

When this reduction assembly starts going south, you'll usually notice it first as a change in the sound – maybe a new whine or a distinct growl from the rotation head or the tramming gearbox. Sometimes, you'll see a noticeable drop in torque, where the drill just doesn't bite like it used to, or the rig feels sluggish climbing a grade. If it's really getting bad, you might even get some nasty vibrations through the chassis or a sudden lock-up, which is never a good sign and usually means bigger trouble.

Replacing one of these isn't a quick job, so when you're in there, make sure you're thoroughly checking the bearings on both ends of the shaft and the condition of all mating gears. Don't just swap it out and forget about the oil level or the state of the seals on the housing.
