550 180 22A U-SEAL A U-SEAL is designed to contain high-pressure hydraulic fluid inside a cylinder, typically sealing a moving piston or rod. In a rock drill, these seals are essential for the drifter's impact mechanism and the feed cylinders on the beam. They ensure that the energy from the hydraulic system is converted directly into percussion and feed force, without being lost to internal leakage.

When this seal begins to wear, hydraulic pressure can bypass the piston, leading to a noticeable drop in performance. For example, if this seal leaks within the drifter's impact piston, the drifter loses its hitting power, slowing down the penetration rate significantly. A failing seal can also increase hydraulic oil temperature, which degrades the oil and accelerates wear throughout the system.
