Without it, or if it’s bent, you’re basically flying blind, which is a no-go on any rig.

When this arm starts giving up, you’ll usually notice the wiper blade isn't making full contact with the windshield. You'll get streaks, or maybe a big patch of the glass just doesn't get wiped at all, usually right in the operator's line of sight. Sometimes the arm itself gets a bit wobbly at the pivot, or it binds up, and you might hear the wiper motor straining more than it should, or even a grinding sound if the splines are stripped. It’s not just an annoyance; it's a real safety issue when visibility drops off like that.

Look, when you're swapping one of these out, first thing, always check the wiper blade itself. A lot of times, the arm gets blamed when it's just a worn-out blade that's causing the streaking. Make sure the new arm seats properly on the motor's splined shaft and that the retaining nut or bolt is good and tight – you don't want it slipping off mid-shift. And give the whole linkage a quick once-over for any binding before you button everything back up. Don't forget to test the washer fluid spray too, if it's integrated.
