SUCTION FILTER
The 551 643 16 SUCTION FILTER is your hydraulic pump's first line of defense, catching larger contaminants before they can damage critical components. It ensures a steady, clean oil supply to keep your rig running smoothly without pump cavitation or sluggish performance.

Full Technical Description
551 643 16 SUCTION FILTER is the first line of defense for your main hydraulic pump. It's designed to catch the bigger pieces of crud – metal shavings, chunks of old seal, or just plain dirt that found its way into the tank – before they can even get close to the pump's internals. Think of it as a coarse strainer, not for super fine filtration, that's what your pressure and return filters handle. This one just stops the big stuff from doing serious damage, keeping the pump from trying to ingest something it shouldn't.
When this filter starts getting plugged up, which is usually what happens, your pump's going to struggle to pull enough oil. You'll often hear the main hydraulic pump start to cavitate – that distinct, gravelly, grinding noise that sounds like it's trying to eat rocks. It's basically starving for oil. Sometimes you'll notice the system pressure becoming erratic, or dropping off completely under load, because the pump just can't keep up. The rig might feel sluggish, or certain functions might just stop responding altogether. It's a classic case of oil starvation, plain and simple.
Replacing this filter is usually a pretty straightforward job, whether it's a spin-on or a cartridge type. The main thing is to make sure that new O-ring or gasket seats perfectly; a small leak here can pull air into the system, which is just as bad as a clogged filter for your pump. While you're down there, take a good look at the oil in the tank. If it's looking sludgy or full of contaminants, that's a red flag. It means you might have bigger issues upstream or downstream that need looking at, not just a simple filter change.
