It also acts as a sealed reservoir for the gear oil, which is essential for lubricating the internal components and managing heat generated by the drivetrain.
The integrity of this housing is critical for both safety and machine availability. A crack or fracture from an impact can lead to a catastrophic failure of the axle, potentially causing the machine to lose drive or a wheel. Even a small, persistent oil leak can drain the lubricant, leading to overheating and seizure of the differential gears, resulting in costly downtime.
