REAR AXLE
The REAR AXLE, part number 560 438 58, is the backbone supporting the rig's rear weight and transmitting power to the wheels. It takes a beating from rough terrain, keeping the back end stable. Maintaining it properly prevents major drivetrain issues and keeps your rig reliably moving.

Full Technical Description
560 438 58 REAR AXLE is what carries the whole back end of the rig, obviously. It’s the main structural backbone for the rear wheels, taking all the load and transferring the drive from the differential out to the hubs. Think of it as the big solid bar that holds everything together and gets power to the ground. Without it, or if it’s compromised, you’re not moving. It's built to handle a lot of twisting force and impact from rough terrain, keeping the wheels aligned and the rig stable.
When this axle starts to go, or if it’s taken a serious hit, you’ll usually notice some pretty clear signs. One of the first things I’ve seen is a weird vibration or a clunking noise coming from the rear end, especially when you’re turning or hitting bumps. Sometimes, the rig might even feel a bit 'loose' or unstable at speed. If it’s really bad, you could see uneven tire wear on the rear, or even a slight misalignment if the housing itself is bent. Don't ignore those noises; they usually mean something significant is happening inside.
Replacing a REAR AXLE is a big job, not something you want to do more often than necessary. When you’re in there, always check the axle housing for any cracks or deformation, especially around the spring seats and differential mounting points. It’s easy to focus just on the axle shaft itself and forget the housing can take a beating too. Also, make sure your diff oil is clean and at the right level; low oil can lead to premature wear on the axle bearings, which then puts more stress on the axle itself. Don't cheap out on the seals when you put it back together, either.
