If it's holding a bearing, you might start hearing a new rattle or a slight knocking sound as the bearing shifts around. If it's on a piston rod, you could see some inconsistent movement or even a bit of drift in a cylinder's position because the rod isn't fully seated or is moving more than it should. Sometimes, you just get increased wear on adjacent components because they're taking loads they weren't designed for axially.

Replacing a LOCK RING seems straightforward, but it's easy to mess up. Always make sure you're using the correct tool – trying to pry it out with a screwdriver is a good way to bend it or scratch the housing. When you put the new one in, give it a good visual check to ensure it’s fully seated in its groove all the way around. A common oversight is not checking the groove itself for damage or burrs; if that groove is messed up, even a new ring won't hold properly, and you'll be back in there sooner than you'd like.
