NUT, LIFTING EYE

AF 042 000 11A NUT, LIFTING EYE is what you hook into when you're moving anything heavy on the rig. Think about getting a feed beam off for service, or maybe pulling a rock drill out of a tight spot. It’s the designated, safe point to attach your shackles and slings, making sure you don't damage other components or, more importantly, drop something big. It's all about getting a secure, balanced lift without putting stress where it doesn't belong.

Now, a NUT, LIFTING EYE isn't really a 'wear' part in the traditional sense, but it sure can get damaged. Usually what happens is you'll see deformation—it might be bent, or the eye itself gets stretched out from an overloaded or awkward lift. Hairline cracks around the base or in the eye are a huge red flag. If your shackle doesn't fit right anymore, or you spot any of that visual damage, you've got a problem. Don't risk it; a failure here means something heavy is coming down, and that's a bad day for everyone.

Before any lift, give these a good once-over. Check for any bending, cracks, or corrosion, especially if it's been exposed to the elements for a while. If it's a threaded eye bolt, make damn sure the threads are clean and undamaged, and that it's screwed in all the way with full engagement. People often forget to check for proper thread engagement or just assume it's good because it's 'just a hook'. It's not just a hook; it's a critical safety point, so treat it that way.
