SIGHT GLASS

BG 002 940 66B SIGHT GLASS is what you poke your head around the side of the hydraulic tank to look at, giving you a quick visual on your fluid level. It's not just a fancy window; it’s your primary way to keep tabs on things without pulling a dipstick or cracking a line. This simple piece lets you confirm at a glance if you're running low on oil or if everything's topped up, which is absolutely critical for preventing a dry run on a pump or compressor.

When one of these starts going south, you’ll usually notice it getting cloudy, or worse, spiderweb cracks. That cloudy look makes it impossible to get a clear reading, so you're essentially guessing on your fluid levels, which is a recipe for trouble. If it actually cracks or starts leaking, well, then you've got a mess, and you're losing expensive hydraulic oil. You might even hear a new, unpleasant whine from the pump that wasn't there before, indicating cavitation because the level dropped too low.

Look, if it's cracked, leaking, or you can barely see through it anymore, just replace it. It's a cheap part compared to the cost of a new pump or fixing a major leak. When you're putting a new one in, make sure the sealing surface is clean. And here's a common one: don't crank down on it like you're tightening a wheel nut – they're usually plastic or glass and will crack if you overdo it. A lot of guys just wipe off the old one and assume it's still good enough, even if it's barely translucent.
