PISTON
The PISTON 3115 3426 00 is the critical component inside your rock drill that delivers the percussive impact, essentially hammering the drill bit into the rock. When it's worn, your penetration rate drops, and the drill just doesn't hit as hard, making for slow progress on site.

Full Technical Description
PISTON 3115 3426 00 is the core of your rock drill's percussion mechanism, the part that actually slams into the shank adapter to transfer energy to the drill string. Think of it as the hammer inside the drill. It's constantly accelerating and decelerating, driven by hydraulic pressure, to deliver thousands of blows a minute. This rapid movement and impact is what breaks rock, so its integrity is pretty fundamental to getting any hole drilled. It's a tough job for any component, really.
When this piston starts wearing out, you’ll definitely notice it. Usually what happens is the impact energy drops off, meaning your penetration rate slows right down. You might hear a change in the drill's sound too – sometimes a duller thud, or even a bit of a clatter if things are really loose. We've seen rigs where the operator just can't get the bit to bite like it used to, and often, it's this component losing its oomph. Pressure fluctuations in the percussion circuit can also be a dead giveaway, as clearances increase and the hydraulic pulses aren't as crisp.
If you're pulling one of these out, make sure you're not just swapping it and calling it a day. Always give the cylinder bore a good, hard look for scoring or ovality; a new piston won't last long in a worn-out bore. And don't forget to check the condition of the front head components and the shank adapter. A worn shank can cause premature wear on the piston's striking face, which is a common oversight. Proper lubrication is key, too – sometimes issues stem from the feed not getting enough grease or oil where it needs to be.
